Personal Story

Rooted in St. Croix

Growing Up on St. Croix

Born and raised on St. Croix, Rodney grew up in the close-knit Watergut community. As the child of a secretary and a police officer, Rodney understood that education was the key to opportunity. After graduating from Central High School, he pursued higher education at California State University. Then he came home — a detail that matters deeply in a community where too many young people leave and don't come back. Rodney returned because the Virgin Islands is home, and he committed his career to making it better for the next generation.

The Educator's Heart

Rodney's career began in the classroom at Juanita Gardine School, teaching the children of the St. Croix community. He soon moved into school leadership — not for the title, but because he saw that there was much work to be done and wanted to be in a position to deliver for the children of the Virgin Islands. Rodney's decades inside the USVI education system and advocating for education administrators give him a unique view of the challenges and the creative solutions needed to address the most critical issues impacting children and families.

Why He's Running

Why Rodney Moorehead Is Running for Lieutenant Governor

Rodney has spent decades watching the challenges facing Virgin Islands families from inside the school system — children who come to school hungry, facilities that need repair, teachers who leave because the territory can't compete on compensation, young people who graduate without a clear path to opportunity at home. Running for Lieutenant Governor is the next step in a career dedicated to making the Virgin Islands a place where the next generation can thrive.

His partnership with Donna Frett-Gregory reflects a shared belief: the territory needs leaders who have done the work, not just held the titles. Donna brings the fiscal and governance expertise to fix what's broken at the top. Rodney brings the on-the-ground understanding of what families and children need every day.
